Today is the first Sunday of Advent 2020. Tonight, we light a candle for hope. Hope is like oxygen to our lungs; we need it to live. We hope beyond 2020. We hope beyond COVID. We place our hope in the eternal. We’ve been given a gift of hope by a king who willingly entered this world as a baby born in a manger. The hope of redemption this baby brought us for a future beyond the brokenness and emptiness of this life. The hope that shines a path in the darkness so that we can see our next step. We hope beyond – we hope between – we hope because.
Father during this time of Advent let us remember to fix our eyes on the only reason for this season that is your son who is the hope for a broken world.
Psalm 130:5: I wait for the Lord, my whole being waits, and in his word I put my hope.
